Assam floods have left families struggling to rebuild. Help them recover.

Floodwaters have devastated communities across Assam, damaging homes, disrupting livelihoods and leaving families struggling to access safe water, hygiene supplies and basic household essentials.
The 2026 floods began on 19 July following heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers. In Sivasagar, the Dikhow River inundated several low-lying villages, damaging homes, agricultural land, livestock and community infrastructure. Many families continue to face waterlogging, damaged sanitation facilities and loss of income. The latest situation updates reports 100 flood-related deaths.

But the crisis does not end when the water goes down.
The struggle continues. Families are returning to damaged homes and trying to restore their daily lives while facing limited access to safe water, sanitation and essential household items.
Women, children, older persons and people with disabilities face additional challenges in these conditions.
 

Flood-affected families continue to manage everyday life amid muddy and waterlogged surroundings.

We went to the ground to understand what families need.
Our field assessment in Sivasagar found that floodwaters remained in several villages and roads were still inaccessible. While some emergency food assistance had reached affected communities, families continue to need support to repair damaged homes, purchase medicines, replace essential belongings and meet urgent household needs.
The assessment also highlighted urgent needs for food, safe drinking water, hygiene and sanitation supplies, and household recovery support.

We will work with local communities and authorities to ensure support reaches families who need it most and to minimise duplication of assistance.
