People Enjoy the Right to Education

Introduction Education is a fundamental right and a powerful pathway to breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality. Good Neighbors Bharat is committed to ensuring that every child has access to inclusive, equitable, and quality education in a safe, child-friendly, and supportive learning environment. We work closely with children, families, schools, School Management Committees (SMCs), communities, and government institutions to address barriers that prevent children from enrolling, learning, and completing their education. Through an integrated approach that combines learning support, school improvement, community engagement, and system strengthening, we help children develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to reach their full potential.

Objective

To promote inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all children by improving access, strengthening learning outcomes, enhancing school systems, and fostering active participation of families and communities. We place particular emphasis on reaching marginalized and vulnerable children, including girls, children with disabilities, Dalit and tribal children, and children from economically disadvantaged households.

Key Focus Areas

Good Neighbors Bharat's education programme focuses on:

  • Access to Education: Supporting enrolment, retention, and successful transition of vulnerable children into and through school.
  • Quality Teaching and Learning: Strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy, remedial education, teacher capacity, and child-centred, inclusive teaching practices.
  • Safe and Inclusive Learning Environments: Improving classrooms, learning resources, sanitation facilities, accessibility for children with disabilities, and child-friendly school environments.
  • Digital Inclusion: Expanding access to ICT infrastructure, digital learning resources, and digital literacy for both students and teachers.
  • Community Participation and School Governance: Strengthening School Management Committees, promoting meaningful parental engagement, and enhancing collaboration between schools, communities, and local authorities to improve accountability and education outcomes

Key Activities

  • Identify and enrol out-of-school children through community outreach and school collaboration.
  • Provide educational materials, scholarships (where applicable), and remedial learning support to improve academic performance.
  • Strengthen foundational literacy, numeracy, and digital skills through structured learning interventions.
  • Train teachers on child-centred, inclusive, gender-sensitive, and technology-enabled teaching methodologies.
  • Improve school infrastructure, including classrooms, learning spaces, sanitation facilities, menstrual hygiene management (MHM) corners, and accessibility for children with disabilities.
  • Strengthen School Management Committees and facilitate parent–teacher engagement to improve school governance.
  • Conduct community awareness programmes to address barriers such as child labour, child marriage, gender discrimination, and school absenteeism.
  • Collaborate with government departments and other stakeholders to strengthen education systems and promote sustainable, community-owned solutions.

Primary Beneficiaries

Our programme benefits children particularly girls, children with disabilities, Dalit and tribal children, and those from low-income and marginalized communities—as well as teachers, parents and caregivers, School Management Committees, schools, and local communities. By strengthening both education systems and community ownership, we contribute to sustainable improvements in children's learning, well-being, and future opportunities.
