Good School Project (CSR Pilot Project)

Project Overview

The Good School Project is a holistic school improvement initiative designed to create safe, inclusive, child-friendly, and future-ready learning environments for children in underserved communities. Implemented as a CSR pilot project, the initiative strengthens access to quality education while improving school infrastructure, child protection, health and hygiene, climate awareness, and community participation. Working closely with government schools, communities, and local education authorities, the project empowers schools to become centres of excellence where every child can learn, grow, and thrive in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.

Project Objectives

Improve children's access, enrolment, attendance, retention, and transition in schools.
Strengthen safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments that support holistic child development.
Enhance school governance through active participation of School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), parents, and communities.
Promote child protection, health, hygiene, menstrual hygiene management, sports, and climate-responsive school practices.
Develop a sustainable and scalable Good School Model that can be replicated across other schools and communities.

Key Components

Education Access and Learning: Support enrolment, attendance, retention, transition, and improved learning outcomes through school and community engagement.
Safe and Child-Friendly Schools: Improve classrooms, WASH facilities, sports infrastructure, learning resources, and child protection systems to create safe and inclusive schools.
School Governance and Community Engagement: Strengthen the capacity of School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), teachers, and parents to improve school management and accountability.
Health, Hygiene and Climate Education: Promote child health, nutrition, hygiene, menstrual hygiene management, environmental conservation, and climate-responsive behaviours.
Future-Ready Schools: Foster child-centred, healthy, inclusive, digitally aware, and environmentally responsible learning environments that prepare children for the future.

Key Activities

Conduct school assessments; identify and re-enrol out-of-school children; strengthen School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs); organize capacity building programmes for teachers, parents, and school management committees; improve classrooms and school infrastructure; establish safe drinking water, handwashing, and sanitation facilities; promote child protection and digital safety awareness; provide sports equipment and recreational opportunities; conduct health, nutrition, hygiene, menstrual hygiene management, and climate awareness sessions; organize environmental campaigns, tree plantation, and school cleanliness drives; and mobilize communities to strengthen school participation and children's well-being.

Target Beneficiaries

The project directly benefits school-going children and out-of-school children, particularly those from vulnerable and marginalized communities. Indirect beneficiaries include teachers, School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), parents and caregivers, local education authorities, and surrounding communities.

The Good School Project is implemented by Good Neighbors Bharat in partnership with Deepalaya, one of India's leading development organizations dedicated to empowering underserved communities through education, healthcare, and livelihoods since 1979. The project is implemented in collaboration with government schools, School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), local education authorities, community stakeholders, and CSR partners to strengthen inclusive and quality education.
